Publisher’s Book Summary: Fairytale Land’s baddest girl is about to head to a prince’s ball. A modern, twisted retelling of Cinderella.
Once upon a time in Fairytale Land, there lived Sylvia Locke—the baddest girl around. So bad that her grandparents have shipped her off to live with her uptight Aunt Marjorie and two goody-two-shoes step-cousins. When an invitation to the prince’s ball arrives, Sylvia is determined to attend at any cost, even if it means enlisting the help of an evil fairy godmother (against Fairytale Land laws, but has that ever stopped her?). Along this chaotic quest, Sylvia stumbles into some unexpectedly imperfect friends. But will she also learn to appreciate those who truly care for her?
The second book in the Tairy Fails series of modern, twisted retelling that puts a hilarious, rebellious, new spin on the classic fairy tales. Perfect for elementary school kids and early chapter book readers.

MY REVIEW
Just as in the first adventure where readers encountered Sylvia (breaking into the house of the Three Bears), she is still up to no good. Her loving grandparents have tried to provide a good home and some guidance while her parents are off adventuring, but Sylvia is quite a handful. So they have her Aunt Marjorie take her for a visit hoping that the influence of her two well-behaved cousins will do her some good. Sylvia is quite sure she won’t enjoy a visit to Buttzville and immediately begins a campaign of misdeeds to convince her aunt to send her back to her grandparents. As in most twisted fairy tales, many of the characters are different from what we know in the traditional versions. The evil stepmother and stepsisters become an aunt and two goody-goody cousins. Rather than a sweet fairy godmother, Sylvia works with an evil fairy godmother named Pamela who looks like she’s on her way to a punk rock concert. She waves magic wands she finds on sale at the used-wand stand and the results are a bit…unpredictable. Sylvia is such a rebel that she even insults a prince! If you know a young reader who enjoys books such as The Frog Prince Continued or The Stinky Cheese Man, then give them a Sylvia Locke adventure and see how much they laugh at her hijinks.
