Publisher’s Book Summary: Word Fun Riddles & Crisscross Puzzles is a two books-in-one treasure trove of learning and laughter, created by an Ivy League-educated former teacher. In the first book, kids will delight in solving hilarious riddles—some guaranteed to make them giggle, others sure to earn a groan. The second book challenges them to place each word into a crisscross diagram, sharpening their minds and bringing words to life.
The real magic lies in solving these puzzles with pencil and paper. This hands-on approach boosts learning by engaging fine motor skills, improving focus, and minimizing distractions from digital devices. Writing on paper reinforces memory, builds cognitive connections, and nurtures problem-solving skills in a purposeful way. Unlike apps, which can sometimes lead to passive engagement or overstimulation, physical puzzles encourage deep, meaningful learning. Most importantly, kids will feel an incredible sense of accomplishment with each puzzle they solve—a reward that lasts far beyond the page!

MY REVIEW
This book offers two types of word puzzles for those who enjoy a good brain-teaser. The first half of the book includes 25 “word fun riddles.” These are puzzles that ask puzzlers to look at a pair of words and find the letter that is in one word, but not the other. That letter is placed in the blank and so on for each pair of words until all the blanks on the page are filled. If the puzzler has done their work correctly, then the letters spell out the answer to the riddle on that page. As Puzzle Pooch (an adorable dachshund with nerdy glasses) says, “Didn’t I tell you the puzzles were REALLY RIDICULOUS?” And it is true, some of the riddles may have you groaning at their punny nature. The second half of the book also offers 25 puzzles, but these are a crisscross challenge. An empty crossword type grid with a couple of letters already in place is provided. There is also a word list sorted alphabetically and by length. Puzzlers must use their logical thinking to choose a word that uses one of the letters provided and is the correct length to fit the spaces, then continue on until the grid is filled. Each crisscross puzzle has its own theme such as supermarkets, exotic colors, or U.S. cities. There is an answer key for all the puzzles in the back of the book. This book would make a good gift for someone who enjoys word puzzles. It would also be perfect to pack for those rainy days that sometimes turn up in the middle of a vacation and leave everyone asking, “What will we do now?” The puzzles sharpen reasoning skills and can boost vocabulary. A win-win for everyone.
