MY REVIEW
Donner may be so ill he can barely see, but he has an idea to save Christmas. This year Santa will be hitting the holiday streets in a big rig decked out by the elves. Everyone pitches in to load all the gifts and Mrs. Claus whips up a 64 ounce go-cup of extra strong coffee. Off Santa goes from Oregon to Singapore, across Europe, Africa and Australia…he keeps those wheels turning and lets everyone on the CB radio know, “Breaker one-nine, it’s your buddy, Kris Kringle in his 18-wheel chrome-and-steel sleigh.”
Brightly colored illustrations capture scenes of reindeer in bed surrounded by crumpled tissues and steaming mugs of cocoa, Rudolph poking at a nose that has hardly a glimmer to it, and the magical truck zooming along with police escorts. The rhyming text comes back to the chorus of “Go, Santa, go beep beep! You gotta hit that open road while the kiddos sleep. Put the pedal to the metal, get your boots on the shingles.” A QR code gives readers access to a recording of Santa and the reindeer performing the book; the whole family can listen as they read along and create a new Christmas tradition.
