Do you know a young reader who loves the ocean and all sorts of marine life? Or a kiddo who will soon be making a trip to the beach? This fun book can let them interact with the story and introduce them to various sea creatures.A young crab has become lost and just wants to find the way home. Readers are asked to help count the crab’s claws as they are freed from the mud, wave their hands to create a breeze, and wiggle the book to get some motion in the waves. Other actions accompany the different pages as the little crab makes it back into the water, meets sea turtles and starfish, and finds a happy ending. Colorful illustrations capture the rippling waves, brightly colored fish, and the more muted colors of hermit crabs. The few lines of rhyming text describe the events or solicit help from the reader in each new scene. Facts about the various animals are shared in the back matter.
This would be a good read for preschool or early elementary ages, and will probably be quickly memorized and read independently. The interactive nature will appeal to kids who enjoy books such as Don't Push the Button! by Bill Cotter or Press Here by Hervé Tullet.
