MY REVIEW
Owners of multiple pets will recognize scenes from their own lives in this lively return of Phoebe the Pug. The tale this time centers on the addition of a cat to the household. Phoebe is a bit ambivalent about this newcomer. "I do like your kneading my rolls with your paws," Phoebe admits. The illustration shows Phoebe on her back in the dog bed while the cat seems to be giving her a tummy massage. Yet there are other things that are harder to accept. What's a pug to do when a cat takes over the human lap and the best spot for barking at squirrels in front of the window?
When their human puts the cat back in the pet carrier and leaves the house, Phoebe is sure that the cat is gone for good. No more putting up with a pet that poops in a box rather than out in the grass. No more worrying what the cat will claw next. But...also no more snuggling together as furry buddies. Maybe the cat wasn't so bad after all? Readers will laugh out loud at the cat climbing curtains, shredding furniture, and getting wide-eyed with shock when Phoebe sniffs her behind. The action in the illustrations captures the feelings that families with more than one pet experience.
Whether kids or parents have a furry family member, or just happen to appreciate pet stories, they will all get laughs galore from this amusing story of an established pet trying to come to terms with a new arrival.
