My Review:

Chomper is a precocious puppy who manages to escape from his play area and find the messiest possible activities to do outside. We all know he needs a bath after his adventures, but he does not like bath time. (Sound like anyone you know?) He sees the tub being filled and hides under the bed, scampers down the hall, and then wriggles like an eel as he is lowered into the water. Once he is in the tub, he decides to make the best of the situation and his active imagination provides plenty of amusement.

The language in the text will have young readers repeating along with phrases like: "so naughty...super naughty...The naughtiest!" or "Stinker! Stink stink! The stinkiest!" Chomper's personality comes through clearly when he thinks, "Not coming out. No way!" as he peeps from under the bedspread, or "All good here, no thanks!" as he runs down the hall.

And the illustrations will charm readers of all ages. Whether they are laughing at the skunk holding its nose because Chomper is so stinky, or giving a big "Aaaahhhh" as they see Chomper covered in soap bubbles, the colorful illustrations add emotional depth to the story. They also depict bath-time rituals that many readers will recognize - the tub full of bubbles and bath toys, the towel and hairdryer, even the dusting of talcum powder to make Chomper "The freshest!" will have youngsters saying, "I do that, too!"

The combination of a rambunctious puppy, humor, familiar routines, and imaginative play is perfect for young readers and encourages them to make the best of every situation - just as Chomper does.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Baby Chomper’s Bath Time

Written by Jeff Minich
Publisher’s Synopsis: Baby Chomper’s Bath Time is a lovable and waggable tale about a little puppy who loves to get dirty, but really dislikes getting freshened up. One day, baby Chomper escapes from home and gets muddy and stinky beyond belief. He rolls in the mud, takes a dive in the trash, and even gets sprayed by a very stinky skunk. When his owner finds him, Chomper returns home to find that it’s his least favorite time of all: BATH TIME! Floating among his toys and surrounded by bubbles, Chomper wishes he could just be dry, stinky, and free to play outside. But then, with nowhere else to go, Chomper realizes that bath time can be one of the most fun times of all! He imagines himself diving in the deep blue sea, being the captain of his own ship, and surfing to a faraway shore. Baby Chomper’s Bath Time is a playful story that encourages children to see the bright side of every situation.
