MY REVIEW
Fairy Day Games introduces readers to a variety of fun activities that small creatures from nature and the magical realm enjoy together. Titmice, fairies, frogs, gnomes, moles, doves, sprites and imps gather for a time of fun, music, dancing, and snacks. The narrator is a young girl who wishes she could shrink to a small enough size to join in the festivities and imagines the fun she would have along with them.
Rhyming text carries the story along in a bouncing rhythm that suits the upbeat fun being shown in the brightly colored illustrations. A dance hall is decorated with paper lanterns and streamers. A mole plays a grand piano as a choir of fairies performs for the crowd. Gnomes pour out tea or provide cotton candy to guests. Birds give small animals rides or help string twinkle lights in the trees.
The small size of the magical creatures reminds me of the Borrowers. Some of them even use thimbles and spools as furniture. Other party guests can perch on toadstools or dance inside a hollow log. Youngsters who enjoy the idea of Tinker Bell and Pixie Hollow will find this story an enjoyable visit to the world of fairies and sprites.
