If you are a foodie and are thinking of a career related to food, then this is a great book for you. There are descriptions of all sorts of jobs that involve food such as chef, restaurant owner or manager, food critic, blogger, recipe writer, food scientist, food photographer or stylist, or food columnist. The duties of each job are explained as well as what education and skills are needed to begin each career and where you might get necessary experience. Interviews with a professional from each type of job are also included. Some of the experts interviewed are "seasoned" veterans who have been in the field for years, like former White House executive pastry chef Roland, Mesnier. Others are "sprouting" in the business, like Remmi Smith, star of The Culinary Kid video series. Those who are interviewed also provide a favorite recipe for readers to try.
There are challenges for readers; these are activities that have you experiment with various aspects of food. The book also has a glossary, a list of resources for the different careers, website URLs for culinary schools, and a bibliography of articles and books about food-related jobs.
I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley. It will go on sale October 22, 2013.
