Fall Reading 2019 The Candy Cane Caper

Out now and perfect for holiday reading or giving - a cozy mystery set in snowy Colorado. Amateur detective Sadie Hoffmiller wants to complete her Christmas to-do list, including the preparations for a family get together, baking goodies for all her neighbors, and helping an elderly friend enjoy her holiday in the assisted living center. Instead, she is caught up in the search for stolen heirloom ornaments while her husband is out of town, and she is determined to finish all her errands, baking, and the investigation before he comes home and their families arrive for Christmas. Can she pull off a Christmas miracle?

The characters are fallible and vulnerable, whether they are dealing with single parenting, failing health, losing a family member, or dealing with career and money problems. Themes such as forgiveness, using time to mend relationships before it is too late, and judging others based on their past or appearance are all woven into the story. Sadie, the protagonist, is funny as she rushes from yoga class to baking to questioning those on her list of suspects. Her heart is in the right place, even if she does a little lock-picking and snooping in her quest for the truth.

This is a spinoff from the author's Culinary Mystery series and features a dozen Christmas-themed recipes that look very tasty. I can picture a book club reading this and members creating the recipes to share at a holiday meeting.

Fun, useful for the tempting recipes, and a seasonal match. What else could you want?
