George has a problem that many children share - some of the things his family does are very embarrassing! His older sister is always making kissy faces at her phone (ugh - kissing). His younger brother runs around in costumes all the time, even when it is not Halloween. (Who wants a chicken or a starfish as a little brother? The ninja and pirate costumes are not so bad.) His father once came outside in his underwear to tell George and his friend to settle down. And his mom can’t cook. What might they do at Family Night to embarrass him in front of his entire class?
But when the family arrives in George’s classroom, things are not so bad. Other families also have some odd behavior - outlandish hats, pest control bugman costumes, doing headstands. Maybe his family isn’t so different from everyone else. And you can just guess who it is that has the most embarrassing moment of all. As George learns, “Everyone is weird and embarrassing sometimes.”
The illustrations add to the incredible humor of this family story. The little brother waving his pirate sword at meals. Dad’s boxer shorts covered with hearts. Smoke coming from the dish Mom is carrying to the dinner table. His teenage sister with her phone constantly in her hand and her lips puckered up in a kissy face. My favorite might be Dorothy’s stepmom pulling up in front of the school and running over the traffic cones and the No Parking sign as the safety monitor chases after her blowing his whistle. It reminded me of Mei’s mom trying to get past the safety officer to visit her at school in “Turning Red.”
A great story to read together as a family or to share with a class before Open House to relieve everyone’s jitters about what kind of impression their family will make.

Kimber Morgan is a multi-award-winning children’s book author who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kimber is a fun wife and imperfect mom of 3 crazy kiddos and two little lemon (problematic) dogs. She tries to live her strengths the best she can. Morgan is a homemade Halloween costume type of mom who lets her kids mix the play-doh. She bakes fun birthday cakes (cutely, but far from perfection) and loves a homemade valentine and a school project.
Writing children’s books is an extension of her creative strength. She strives to create picture books that are beautiful, engaging, humorous, and with themes of acceptance and kindness. She hopes you love reading her works. Kimber is available for author visits and wants to connect with you.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Jessica Kwan is the illustrator behind Bad Attitude Bunny Illustration, though her attitude is generally not that bad. She hails from San Francisco and is currently based in northern Sweden. She enjoys drawing characters with funny expressions and anything inspired by nature and animals. She is always looking for the next collaboration, but during her spare time, she likes to: travel, read, do crosswords, and pet the neighborhood cats. Some things she dislikes are sand, mosquitoes, and melted ice cream.
